We have always been very visual creatures and this means that we will always respond to visual stimulation quite well. This has always been essential in our communication and consumers will always want to be able to see what they are planning to purchase or at least who they will be purchasing from if they are buying a service. This time I will be taking about the emoji and how this has become such a powerful method of communication for so many people.

What is an emoji?

There is a good chance you don’t know what they are, but I’m pretty sure you have seen them at least once. When someone sends you a small image that represents any kind of facial expression, concept or even entity, that is what an emoji is. There used to be “emoticons” which were meant to help people represent an emotion with a small image, but emoji’s are an expanded version of that and this allows for faster communication.

What we retain the most

It has been proven that we are more likely to retain things we see than things we hear. This has been proven with studies that show that over 68% of people who see something once will be able to remember it, while only around 12% of people who heard something once will be able to remember it. These are very important studies to consider when you are marketing any product or service to your audience.

The emoji and the mobile phenomenon

The emoji is the ideal way to enhance and speed up a conversation because it allows people to get a message across much faster. If someone is talking to you about something and you want to show them that you are enjoying what they are writing, you could post a clapping emoji. If you feel like you want to create a business partnership with someone and you are ready to accept, you could post an emoji of two people shaking hands.

How does emoji use affect marketing?

Anything that allows you to provide a more visual appeal to people is going to be ideal for you to use to your advantage. Remember the percentages we mentioned earlier and keep them in mind when you decide to do any kind of online marketing campaign that involves texting or messages posted in social media or chats.

The use of an emoji in a message can be great and some people have learned to use several emoji’s to say things without having to type any words at all. It’s important to familiarize yourself with the emoji “slangs” that are out there. Yes, by that I mean that people are using combinations of emoji graphics to say specific messages and some of them are becoming quite popular, so just stay updated on that as much as you can.

Conclusion

The world of marketing is going to be in constant shifting and being able to adapt to those changes is always going to be relevant and important. The best thing you can do in this kind of situation is to make sure that you can take continuously update your knowledge in order to make the best use of the changes that are coming out on a monthly and sometimes even weekly basis.

Always remember that the online marketer of the modern worlds needs to be able to stay on sharp with technology and to make the best use of it as much as possible. This is the only way to guarantee the best possible results with every campaign that you start.
